Present simple - Настоящее простое

We use the present Simple:

 

a) for permanent states (для постоянных состояний)  He works in a bank.

b) for repeated actions and daily routins. (для повторяющихся и повседневных действий)

He plays tennis every Saturday.

c) for general truth and laws and natures (для общеизвестных истин и законов природы)

The sun sets on the west.

d) for timetables (planes, trains etc.) and programmes. (для расписания транспорта и программ телевидения, кино, театров)   

              The plane from Brussels arrives at 8.30. 

e) for sports commentaries, reviews and narration. (для спортивных комментариев, обозрений, и повествований).

*Peterson overtakes Williams and wins the race. (sports commentary)

* Mike Dalton  plays the part of Macbeth (review)

* Then the prince gets on his horse and quickly rides away. (narration) 

f) to give instructions or directions (instead of the imperative) (чтобы дать инструкцию, не используя повелительное наклонение) 

You sprinkle some cheese on the pizza and then you bake it.  

Time Expression: usually (обычно), often (часто), always (всегда),  every (каждый), at night (ночью), at the weekend (на выходных).

Affirmative Interrogative Negative
I like Do I like? I don't like.
We like Do we like? We don't like.
You like Do we like? You don't like.
They like Do they like? They don't like.
He likes Does he like? He doesn't like.
She likes Does she like? She doesn't like.
It likes Does it like? It doesn't like.
